Tamil Nadu school textbooks are free to download, but the official sources are split across more than one website, and the file names rarely say whether a book is Tamil medium or English medium. This guide shows the quickest order to find a book, how to tell the mediums apart, and how to open the file once it is on your phone or computer.
பாடநூல்களை இலவசமாக PDF வடிவில் பதிவிறக்கம் செய்யலாம்; எந்தப் பதிவும் தேவையில்லை.

Download a textbook in four steps
- Find your class. Open the class-wise textbook pages and pick the class. Every class has its own page with the full subject list for that year.
- Choose the medium. Each row lists Tamil Medium and English Medium separately. Match the medium printed on the cover rather than guessing from the file name — the two editions share a cover design.
- Open the subject link. The PDF links open in a new tab from Google Drive. Use the download button inside Drive rather than reading it in the browser, or press Ctrl+S on the preview.
- Save it offline. Once downloaded the file opens without an internet connection. Rename it to include the class, subject and medium so it is findable later.
If you want the whole year in one go, the Complete collections section on each class page groups every subject of that class into a single list.
Tamil medium or English medium
The two editions are separate files. The Tamil medium edition is titled in Tamil on the cover and the English medium edition in English; inside, the chapters carry the same numbers and the same exercises. If a link does not show a cover, open the first page and check the language of the chapter titles before downloading the whole file.
Teachers printing handouts and competitive-examination candidates often keep both. The Tamil edition carries the Tamil technical terms, which is the version the state examinations use.
Download by class
Every class has its own page. Classes 1 to 8 are published term-wise, so the page lists a Term 1, Term 2 and Term 3 book for most subjects; Classes 9 to 12 have a single annual volume per subject.

When a link does not work
- It opens a preview instead of downloading. That is Drive’s default view. Use the download icon in the Drive toolbar, or Ctrl+S on the preview page.
- You get a “request access” screen. The file’s permissions changed at the host end. Nothing on this site can grant access to it — for that title, use the official source.
- The PDF looks blank or half-empty. It is usually still downloading. Wait until the file size stops changing before opening it.
- The wrong medium came down. Check the first page; the covers are deliberately identical apart from the title language.
- It will not open at all on a phone. Install any PDF reader, or open the file from the Downloads folder rather than the browser tab.
Broken links are worth reporting, because a book that has moved can usually be replaced from another source.

Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to download Tamil Nadu textbooks?
Yes. The state publishes the digital editions of the prescribed textbooks for free public use.
Do I need to register or pay?
No. The download pages on this site need no account, no email and no payment, and the files open from Google Drive.
Why does a PDF link open a Google Drive page?
The files are hosted on Google Drive. Open the link, then use the download button inside Drive to save the PDF to your device.
Are the books available in Tamil and English medium?
Yes. Every prescribed textbook is published in both mediums, and both editions are linked on the class pages.
Can I download a whole class in one click?
There is no single archive for a whole class, but the Complete collections section groups every subject of a class together so you can take them one after another.
